In 2019 a group of about 60 fat folks from the Portland area were brought on as extras for the now-iconic pool party episode of the then-yet-to-be-released tv adaptation of Lindy West’s book, Shrill. Moved by the incredible energy of being in a space that was so joyously, unabashedly filled with fat people just enjoying life, the founders of Chub Hub PDX wanted to relive it in the real world and be able to invite all our friends and community. That’s how the Big Splash! Fat Babe Pool Party was born!
